Colorado Mesa State University Campbell College Center

Conference Centers & Multipurpose Rooms, Dining Facilities, Student Unions, University Centers

Grand Junction, CO | 2010 | 100,000 sf
2011 American Concrete Institution (ACI) Award of Merit

This 100,000 sf College Center was designed in record time, having replaced the existing Center that was demolished, leaving the campus without its critical central building. In addition, the project included a 300-car garage that was constructed in 4 months.

The surprisingly mild microclimate provided challenges and opportunities that were manifested in the transparency of the design. The campus has a tradition of outdoor activities throughout the year and the building reflects this by providing plazas and multiple terraces that relate to the various points of entry that draw students from multiple directions.

The building is designed to provide the largest gathering space (for 700+ occupants) in the region while at the same time serving the college community.
